Post a tuition requirement

Tell us what the student needs and how a tutor can reach you. Posting takes two to three minutes, costs nothing, and does not require an account. A moderator reviews every requirement before it appears publicly. We are launching with a focus on Delhi and Mumbai; requirements from other Indian cities are also accepted.

Privacy first: your name is never shown publicly and your phone number is never published. Tutors apply through the site, and you choose who to contact.

Writing a useful requirement

How to describe your tuition need clearly

A good requirement is specific enough for a tutor to decide whether they are a fit, without exposing information that should stay private. The fields in the form follow this order for a reason: the teaching need first, the location second, the contact details last.

1. Start with the class and the subject

State the class or grade and the subjects that need support. If the school board matters — for example CBSE, ICSE or a state board — mention it in the additional requirements. A tutor for Class 10 Mathematics is not automatically the right tutor for Class 4 English, so be precise rather than broad.

2. Separate the subjects if the needs are different

If the student needs regular help with Mathematics and only occasional help with Science, say so. You can list up to five subjects, and the notes field is the right place to explain priorities, recent exam results or a specific topic that is causing difficulty.

3. Choose home, online, or either

Home tuition requires a tutor who can travel to your locality. Online tuition requires a reliable connection and a quiet space. Choosing “either” is useful when you are open to both formats, but it helps to say in the notes which one you would prefer if the right tutor is available.

4. Give a realistic schedule

“Weekday evenings after 6 pm” is more useful than “flexible”. Think about homework, school tests and family commitments. If you need three sessions a week, say three. A tutor who can only offer one session may still be excellent, but you will both know the fit is limited.

5. Treat the budget as a range, not a promise

The budget field is optional and is shown as text, so you can write a range per month or per session. It is an indication to help tutors decide whether to call. Fees are agreed directly between you and the tutor; the site does not set, collect or enforce them.

6. Submit only once

Duplicate submissions are rejected automatically within a short window, and repeated submissions from the same number are rate-limited. If you need to change something after submitting, wait for review or use the report link on the published listing rather than posting again.

Please do not include: your child’s full name, your street address, email address, photographs, identity documents or financial information. None of these are needed for a tutor to decide whether to contact you.

Privacy and consent

Exactly what is public, and what is not

This notice describes the current implementation. It is not a generic template: it lists the fields the site actually stores and the rules the public pages actually apply.

Your responsibility as a requirement poster. You are designated as responsible for your own data-privacy choices and for the personal information you submit. The website administrator is not designated as responsible for those choices. Only submit information you have permission to share, and never include a child’s full name, exact address or identity documents.

What we collect

  • Parent or guardian name (used for moderation; never shown publicly).
  • City, locality, class or grade, subjects and tuition type.
  • Contact phone number, normalised to an Indian mobile format (never published).
  • Optional budget, preferred timing and additional requirements.
  • Consent flag, the consent notice version and the time consent was recorded or withdrawn.
  • Limited anti-abuse data: a pseudonymised IP hash, a hashed browser identifier and risk flags. Raw IP addresses are not stored.

What is shown publicly

  • Class, subjects, city, locality, tuition type and posted date.
  • Optional budget, preferred timing and the additional requirements text.
  • The number of tutor applications received, as a plain count. No application details, tutor identities or contact numbers are ever public.
  • Your name and your phone number are never included in public listing responses. There is no public phone number on any listing at any time.

Consent rules

The consent checkbox is unselected by default and must be ticked explicitly. The server records the consent state, the notice version and a timestamp. The public serialisation layer has no phone-number field at all, so a parent’s number cannot leak through a public response even by mistake.

How to withdraw consent or ask for removal

Open your published listing and choose “Report this listing”. Say that you are the parent and ask for the number to be hidden or the listing to be closed or removed. Include your reference code if you have it. The site owner reviews these requests in the moderation dashboard.

Retention

Pending submissions that are never approved may be rejected and later purged. Published listings expire 45 days after approval by default (the owner can change this), and expired or removed records are excluded from public access. Moderation audit events are kept for accountability. Database backups follow the host’s retention schedule, and a deleted record ages out as older backups are replaced.

Questions and answers

Posting a tuition requirement: common questions

Straight answers about accounts, cost, review, consent and duplicates. If you are a tutor, see the browsing guide instead.

Do I need an account or login to post a tuition requirement?

No. The form is open to everyone and does not create an account. You provide the requirement details, confirm that you understand how your number is used, and submit. There is no password to remember and no profile to manage.

Is posting a tuition requirement really free?

Yes. Posting is free. There is no subscription, no posting fee, no commission, no paid lead unlocking and no payment gateway on this site. The service is a free classifieds board, not an agency.

How long does review take before my requirement is published?

Every submission is reviewed manually, so we do not promise a fixed time. A requirement stays pending until an administrator approves it. If it is incomplete, duplicated or unsuitable, it may be rejected or need clarification instead of being published.

Will my phone number be shown to tutors?

No. CityTutor never publishes a parent’s phone number and never sends it to tutors. Tutors apply for your requirement through the site, and those applications appear only in your private post-management area. You contact the tutors you choose yourself, so your number stays with you.

Why is the consent box still required if my number stays private?

The box is an explicit acknowledgement of how your number is used: to contact you about this requirement (including a WhatsApp notification when a tutor applies), for moderation, and to manage your post. Your name and exact address are never collected publicly either.

Can I edit or remove my requirement later?

There is no parent account, so edits and removals are handled by the site owner. Open your published listing, choose “Report this listing”, and explain what should change or that it should be closed. Keep your reference code from the confirmation screen to help identify it.

What happens if I submit the same requirement twice?

The site fingerprints the phone number, city, class and subjects. A near-identical submission within seven days is rejected as a duplicate, and repeated submissions from the same number are rate-limited. This protects tutors from seeing the same requirement several times.

What should I avoid including in the form?

Do not include your child’s full name, your street address, email address, identity documents, or any other sensitive information. City, locality, class, subjects, timing and a contact number are enough for a tutor to decide whether to call.

Can I post a home tuition requirement in Delhi or Mumbai?

Yes. Both cities are part of the initial launch focus. Give the city and locality clearly — for example Dwarka or Rohini in Delhi, or Andheri West, Borivali, Powai or Thane in Mumbai — because travel time strongly affects which tutors can take the requirement. Posting is free and still requires review before publication.

Can I post a requirement outside Delhi or Mumbai?

Yes. The form accepts any Indian city, and submissions outside the launch cities are reviewed in the same way. The Delhi and Mumbai focus affects content and moderation attention, not eligibility. Response rates will naturally vary with local tutor interest.

Want to see what published listings look like?

Browse the approved requirements. Nothing is visible there until a moderator approves it, so an empty page simply means no listing is currently published.
